A Week On a Mountain

California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra

Summer Camp

I had an awesome week in my CPYO overnight summer camp. It was on top of a mountain in the West Valley College!  I practiced violin, swam, practiced again, had rehearsal, practiced, watched a movie, practiced, had a rehearsal, practiced, and on and on and on.(You can tell there was a lot of practicing.) Let me tell you all about it...

On the first day, Sunday, I arrived in the afternoon and ate a yummy dinner of spaghetti and meatballs. The next morning,  day campers arrived. We rehearsed and practiced the whole day. Then, at 9pm, we played in the CPYO Olympics. Tasks involved kicking your shoe off into a hoop, a rock-paper-scissors war, and much much more.

On Tuesday, we had Game night, kind of like CPYO Olympics but just not so competitive. On Wednesday, you coundn't even fall asleep with all the noise coming from the other campers practicing for the next day's seating audition! (I tried to fall asleep, but failed, of course.)

Thursday. The dreaded seating audition. I got 9th in second violin! There was barbecue for dinner and it was AWESOME!  I also had campfire that night. I roasted 3 marshmallows! The next day, Friday, I went on a Night Hike. It was pitch black! But still, I saw a satellite and actually lived through a meteor shower!

Concert day has come! My orchestra pulled off a supergalifragilisticexpiallydocios show! This camp went by sooooo quickly! I had a wonderful week on the mountain. Now time to go back home! :-)

Harry Potter

Harry Potter

An Extraordinary Reading Experience

Harry Potter. "A delightful award-winning debut from an author who dances in the footsteps of P. L. Travers and Roald Dahl."-Publishers Weekly, starred review. That's what I think, too. This book is worthy enough to be read under the covers at night.Well, enough about the book.WHAT'S THE STORY!?

This story is about a teenage boy named Harry Potter, who has never been the star of a Quidditch team, knows no spells, has never helped to hatch a dragon, and has never worn a cloak of invisibility-until a mysterious letter arrives by owl. The letter is an invitation to an incredible place that Harry will find unforgettable. For it's there that he finds friends, aerial sports, magic in everything from classes to meals, and a great destiny that's waiting for him-if Harry can survive the encounter.

He finds out of his past history, of the evil wizard, Lord Voldemort, who killed his parents. The curse that had tried to kill Harry backfired, leaving Voldemort powerless and weak. But now he's growing back-and trying to destroy Harry.

In the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone , Harry misses death by an inch when he stops Professor Quirrel from stealing the Sorcerer's Stone, a stone which transforms any metal to pure gold. It also produces the Elixir of Life, which will make the drinker immortal. The second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry defeats the memory of Tom Marvolo Riddle, who had been trying to demolish all of the students of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In the the third book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry discovers his godfather, who was wrongly accused of a mass murder. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth book, Harry participates in the Triwizard Tournament, and finds out that Voldemort is back-and stronger than ever. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry meets a Professor with the personality of poisoned honey. Her name was Professor Umbridge.

In the 6th book, Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince, Harry discovers a mysterious wizard with a nickname of "Half-blood Prince", only to find that he is Harry's least favorite teacher, Professor Snape.
On the last and final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Voldemort takes one last stab at Harry, and finally is destroyed.

Finally I'm done! I hope this blog post will count as two since it is very long. I really recommend these books to people who have not read it. Harry Potter is Awesome! :-)
